AATCC TM 147
Antibacterial Activity Assessment of Textile Materials: Parallel Streak Method
This test is a qualitative method to determine antibacterial activity of diffusible antimicrobial agents on treated textile material.
Suggested test organisms are Staphylococcus aureus ATCC #6538, and Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC# 4352 to show antibacterial activity against a Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
The standard does allow other organisms to be used depending on the intended end-use of the test sample.
Sample strips are placed transversely across parallel streaks of bacteria that have been put on an agar surface.
The agar plates are then incubated for 18-24 hours at which time the plates are examined for a clear zone of inhibition, and observed in order to see if there is growth present under the test specimen.
