Agar Plate, Aspergillus niger

Antifungal Activity, Assessment on Textile Materials: Mildew and Rot Resistance of Textile Materials

This test evaluates the growth of Aspergillus niger on textiles.

  • Testing can be done in two ways:

1.) A challenge by use of a nutritive agar medium that will show the sample’s ability to repel encroaching fungal growth, as well as growth from direct inoculation.

2.) The alternate challenge uses a mineral salts agar that contains no carbon source, requiring the fungus to use the test material as its food source.

  • After incubation, samples are evaluated for microscopic and macroscopic growth, and a zone of inhibition.
