AATCC 30 Test III
Agar Plate, Aspergillus niger
Antifungal Activity, Assessment on Textile Materials: Mildew and Rot Resistance of Textile Materials
This test evaluates the growth of Aspergillus niger on textiles.
Testing can be done in two ways:
1.) A challenge by use of a nutritive agar medium that will show the sample’s ability to repel encroaching fungal growth, as well as growth from direct inoculation.
2.) The alternate challenge uses a mineral salts agar that contains no carbon source, requiring the fungus to use the test material as its food source.
After incubation, samples are evaluated for microscopic and macroscopic growth, and a zone of inhibition.
