Bacterial Test - AATCC TM 147
Antibacterial Activity Assessment of Textile Materials: Parallel Streak Method
This test is a qualitative method to determine antibacterial activity of diffusible antimicrobial agents on treated textile material.
- Suggested test organisms are Staphylococcus aureus ATCC #6538, and Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC# 4352 to show antibacterial activity against a Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
- The standard does allow other organisms to be used depending on the intended end-use of the test sample.
- Sample strips are placed transversely across parallel streaks of bacteria that have been put on an agar surface.
- The agar plates are then incubated for 18-24 hours at which time the plates are examined for a clear zone of inhibition, and observed in order to see if there is growth present under the test specimen.
