Fungal Test - ASTM D3273

Standard Test Method for Resistance to Growth of Mold on the Surface of Interior Coatings in an Environmental Chamber

Fungal Testing - ASTM D3273 - Drywall and Ceiling Tile Testing
This test evaluates the relative resistance of coated interior materials to surface mold and mildew growth in a severe environment over a 4-week period. In spite of the test’s purpose, many other materials that cannot be considered “coated interior materials” are also evaluated for mold resistance using this test.
  • The test utilizes a pan of moldy soil that continuously releases fungal spores in a high humidity, a warm temperature chamber, and challenging test pieces suspended above the soil for 28 days.
  • Fungal growth is based on visual defacement using a 0 to 10 rating scale with 0 being completely covered with growth and 10 being clean.
