Fungal Test - ASTM D7855

Standard Test Method for Determination of Mold Growth on Coated Building Products Designed for Interior Applications Using an Environmental Chamber and Indirect Inoculation

Fungal Testing - ASTM D7855 - Coated Building Products Testing
This test evaluates the relative resistance to mold growth and microbial surface defacement on coated building products designed for interior application using an indirect inoculation method in a 4-week period.
  • The test utilizes an indirect inoculation to a coated interior building product of two fungal organisms, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium citrinum.
  • Test specimens are placed in an environmental chamber maintained at 30 ± 2°C and at greater than 90% relative humidity for 4 weeks.
  • A continuous fungal inoculation is provided by open Petri dishes of the two test organisms placed on racks within the chamber below the test pieces.
  • After incubation, evaluation is performed by macroscopic inspection of the test pieces with indirect lighting. Results are reported on a 1 to 5 scale with 1 being clean and 5 being greater than 90% covered.
