Fungal Test - ASTM D5590

Standard Test Method for Determining the Resistance of Paint Films and Related Coatings to Fungal Defacement by Accelerated Four-Week Agar Plate Assay

Fungal Testing - ASTM D5590 - Paint Testing
In this test, painted samples are inoculated with fungal spores and incubated in a high humidity chamber to determine if the fungi will grow on the test pieces.
  • Test samples are inoculated with the Aureobasidium pullulans (mildew organism) applied by itself, while the other Aspergillus niger and Penicillium funiculosum (mold organisms) are pooled and inoculated onto different test pieces.
  • The test allows for testing using a nutritive agar medium or a mineral salts agar that contains no carbon source.
