Fungal Test - ASTM C1338

Standard Test Method for Determining Fungi Resistance of Insulation Materials and Facings

Fungal Test - ASTM C1338 - Insulation Testing
Insulation material is sprayed with a fungal spore suspension, incubated in a warm, humid environment, and checked for fungal growth after 28 days of incubation.
The grading criterion is determined by the customer.
The 3 options for criterion to determine pass/fail are:
  • Use of white birch tongue depressor as comparative item. This is supplied by MicroStar Lab. Test specimens on which the growth is not greater than that on the comparative item shall be considered to have passed.
  • Customer supplied comparative material.
  • Growth or no growth. The observation of any growth on the test specimen shall be considered a failure.
